Half Light: hunting maps, wind and hunt forecasts

Half Light is a hunting app for the web, Android and iPhone. It puts public land, topo and satellite maps, wind and scent, weather, sun and moon, scouting markers, harvests and trail camera photos on one map, and it keeps working offline in the field.

Hunting maps and public land

• Topo, satellite and outdoor base maps across the United States.
• Public land boundaries colored by managing agency. Tap any area for its name, manager, public access and acreage.
• Forest Service roads, trails and Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM). Tap a route for its number, designation and vehicle dates.
• Contour lines, slope shading, streams and lakes, and live NOAA weather radar.

Wind, scent and weather

• Hourly wind, temperature and precipitation from the National Weather Service.
• A scent cone from your stand or your position for the current wind.
• Set the good winds for each stand and see at a glance whether today's wind is right.
• Legal shooting light, sunrise and sunset, moon phase and solunar periods.
• A hunt forecast with a day rating and a 7-day outlook.

Hunt insights for 12 game species

Movement and activity outlooks for whitetail deer, mule deer, elk, moose, pronghorn, wild turkey, black bear, wild hogs, ducks, geese, pheasant and grouse. See the season phase (the whitetail rut, turkey gobbling, waterfowl migration), a daily score, an hourly activity curve and the best times to sit. Every score lists the reasons behind it, each labeled with how strong the research is.

Scouting and stand markers

Mark tree stands, ground blinds, saddles, trail cameras, feeders, food plots, mineral sites, rubs, scrapes, bedding areas, game trails, tracks, shed antlers, sightings, shot locations, blood, parking, gates, camps, water, hazards and waypoints. Add notes and photos to each one and see its distance and bearing from where you stand.

Harvest log

Record each harvest with the species, weapon, score, weight, photos and the story, along with the wind, temperature and moon at the time.

Trail cameras

Give each trail camera its own e-mail address and keep its photos alongside your map.

Offline maps

Save map areas to your phone, with public land and Forest Service layers included, for hunting without cell service. Markers, harvests and notes work offline and sync when you're back in range.

Share with your hunting group

Share harvests and markers by link, start a group with its own chat, and share your live location with your hunting party for a set time.
